When we don’t get answers, we go looking for them.
Doctors don’t have all the answers, but darn, don’t some just make you believe they do? All that knowledge and authority, sometimes it’s hard to question them. With a full roster of patients scheduled daily, each with their own unique complaints, doctors minds must be doing a form of mental acrobatics all the time.
Their mindset, as one would expect, is often dictated by their training, which depending on their area of specialisation, and elective studies, may vary greatly from one provider to the next. Yet there are some traits of the trade and it’s fundamental rules that have accompanied the most throughout their academia, and have now been ingrained into their very person. Doctors on the more conservative, or traditional side, seem to think from a little bit deeper “inside-the-box”, than their more progressive colleagues, and that works fine for some.
However, old general rules maybe becoming outdated and are in need of finer examination, as our understanding of medicine and science has expanded. One of these golden-rules being that if a patient presents with more than a few symptoms, it’s probably psychosomatic. Another, “If you hear hooves clopping, more often than not, it’s horses, not zebras.” Meaning that more commonly the cause will be something less out of the ordinary, not something rare, or “exotic”.
Well, as reality would have it some rather common chronic illnesses present with a multitude of symptoms, and science continues yielding more amazing discoveries into known illnesses that were once less understood, challenging those who accept to rethink previous conclusions.
As objective as it’s principles require it to remain, it is argued that even science is subjective and, depending on who is conducting the study, and the nature of their motives, the outcome may be influenced to some degree. This is why when evaluating our sources we strive to maintain a critical & analytical stance, and provide sources, facts & findings that have been verified, and/or peer-reviewed, to the best of our abilities.
We can’t offer medical advice, and naturally a trusted doctor or dentist will still be the best place to begin to address your immediate healthcare needs. We do believe that you will remain your best advocate, especially when you stay informed!
